Safety surface Triax impact testing Report examples

Certified playground safety inspections and safety surface Triax impact testing on playgrounds and sports fields is what Safe 2 Play Texas is all about. In Texas we follow the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and our checklist covering hundreds of compliance standards makes it a great way to make sure your playground is safe.
Texas Requirements
Texas Health and Safety Code 756.061 requires that all new playground equipment and surfacing purchased with public funds comply with specific standards:
  • Equipment: Must comply with ASTM Standard F1487, the “Consumer Safety Performance Specification for Playground Equipment for Public Use”.
  • Surfacing: Must comply with ASTM Standard F2223, the “Standard Guide for ASTM Standards on Playground Surfacing”.
  • Guidelines: All equipment must also meet the guidelines outlined in the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) Handbook for Public Playground Safety.
The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) conducts inspections of playgrounds at schools, childcare facilities, and municipal parks to ensure compliance with these standards.
While state inspections exist, having a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) conduct an independent inspection before the playground is opened to the public is critical:
  • Hazard Identification: A CPSI can identify potential hazards, such as improper surfacing depth, pinch points, or clothing entanglement risks (like open S-hooks), before they cause injury.
  • Liability Protection: Documented proof of a professional pre-opening inspection demonstrates due diligence and commitment to safety, which can offer protection against liability in case of an accident.
  • ADA Compliance: Inspections also ensure the playground meets the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility guidelines.
Our certified playground safety inspection CPSI report is easy to read. CPSI report starts with ADA requirements to get in and out of your playground, goes into high-level hazards like head entrapments and entanglements and then goes into specific equipment details that must meet Texas standards. Our clients have told us they love to see the multiple photos of the site, warning labels/signs and high level hazards. Safe 2 Play TX CPSI reports have a minimum of 4-5 photos but typically have several photos to show you specific items that are out of compliance with ASTM. In the CPSI report we then share ways to meet compliance by recommending corrections.
See example report.
When on site conducting a CPSI, we can install warning labels to meet the age range, supervision, and other required standards.
Other specialties include an annual certified playground safety inspection, playground design, Triax impact/G-Max testing for unitary surface.
Remember, before the playground is open to the public, it must be inspected by a licensed CPSI and confirm it meets ASTM standards.
